Lore Dump: the Spirit World & the Void
The most obscure worlds in Foxbridge are ones that mortals rarely see or manage to travel to. The Elder Gods are spoken to be originally of Foxbridge and its material plane of existence but the Spirit World and the Void are completely separate and have always been separate. They are opposites of each other and comprise the spiritual and dark energy of the universe.
Spirit World
This land has never been seen by a living soul itself and mortals can only give an estimated guess on what it would be like. They believe it to be similar to Thornberry Woods but it holds so much magic that it would simply destroy any mortal that goes there.
Spirits are entirely composed of magic and do not have the capacity for evil. Some spirits, depending on their type, can be very mischievous and cause trouble for mortals but it is never with ill intent or for evil purposes.
The spirits, like the dragons, are an original source of magic. They can be found only in the Thornberry Woods and seem to centralize their activity around the Whispering Temple Ruins. These ruins are the closest any mortal will get to the Spirit World as there is an impassable gate somewhere in the ruins.
Most spirits only interact with mortal creatures in passing but some of them, due to their nature, will latch onto a material object or even a mortal themselves which will often give the impression that someone has a magical charm over them or an item is composed of magic. These are the effects of a spirit dwelling on said creature or item.
The Void
It is the exact opposite of the Spirit World. It is not of magic but instead a power that is otherworldly. It is consistent and constant while magic is not. The source of this power is through the Tree of Souls which is the heart of the Void. It is accessed by demons through demon law, created and enforced by the Demon Council.
This council is composed of seven demons in total. They are considered Elder Demons and hold power much like the Elder Gods of Foxbridge but they are older and their power is bound by the strict laws that they enforce in their society.
There are many different types of demons, just like spirits and they hold specific roles and abilities in their society. But the biggest difference between demons and spirits is that not only are they not magical but their influence and interactions with mortals is significantly more than that of spirits.
A lot of demons actually live in the mortal world as opposed to the Void because it is how some of them acquire souls for the Tree but then some demons serve other purposes which influence mortals, world events, and civilizations. This is all accomplished through the structure and order that demon law brings. This is also the reason why some demons have both the capacity for good and evil.
Mortals also have the ability to get to the Void, either through some magical phenomenon, through a demon, or the Purgatory Gate.
The Purgatory Gate is a location in Thornberry Woods that can only be found if one successfully finds and follows the Collector. The Collector is the demon entity that watches over the Purgatory Gate and the Tree of Souls. It lures unsuspecting mortals by tricking them into thinking it is a spirit. It then leads them through the gate and attaches their souls to the tree for all eternity.
