Lore Dump: the Religion of Amattia

When the first settlers came to the desert, they were originally blessed by the Elder God Amatt of the sky and keeper of the sun and moon. Of course, this led to a following that grew into an entire civilization and culture. While holding some of the original jackal tribe traditions true, the people decided to adopt the ways of Amatt and their new land.

One of the most exciting traditions amongst Amattian culture is the Passing of the Sun ceremony which is essentially a type of coronation for the eldest pureblood son of the royal family. In this ceremony, the king calls upon Amatt to grant his son the gifts of the sky. If he is deemed worthy, Amatt will pass some of his knowledge and magic onto this future ruler.

Other traditions include small tokens to Amatt such as a small statue of a jackal holding both the sun and the moon in his left and right hands. Some of these statues also depict him as a mighty dragon. People will often keep these statues in their homes and pray to them in the morning and at night. Other people may choose to visit murals all throughout the city that are dedicated solely to Amatt and his teachings of the original settlers and their ways. Most of this knowledge included the birth of the sun and moon and how they came to create the sky.

The story of Amatt’s battle with the Moon and alliance with the Sun before the Sky came to be is an epic tale of adventure and mystery. It is said that Amatt’s alliance with the Sun was the very reason that he acquired his magic.
